What defines someone as a 'true artist'? Someone who draws, writes, photographs, performs or plays music?
When you drop the textbooks and the constant copying and re-drawing of someone elses images. The playing of someone else’s songs. The snapshots of previous places already taken by someone else. Writing in a style of someone else. Acting in a way that was created by someone else.
Unless you can draw on your own, write on your own, snapshot on your own, play on your own or act on your own, by yourself in your own original style, you're not being artistic, just autistic.
Practice makes 'perfect'. Imperfections are what makes things perfect. It doesn't have to be 'perfect,' it just has to be original.
When you're finally independent and can do all this on your own...
When you can finally be completely original and don't need to rely someone on else’s style...
Create something with your own originality...
Then you have then become a true artist.
This is what I believe a true artist is.
Be original.
